An open letter to Serena Williams

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Dear Serena Williams,

Over the years we’ve seen you triumph, fail, cry, scream, threaten, bitch, complain, and even just disappear. What’s the deal with you? It’s been nearly a decade of absentee appearances claiming injuries (a place some would say close to home), and over the past couple of years, just plain annoyance from the spectators view of your tennis game.

Going back to the rise of your tennis career, you dawned upon us, lovely braided hair (braces and all) with little beads, and more importantly; insane tennis strokes. We watched in awe as you won the Wimbledon Championships, the US Open, and the Australian. But, wait, what’s that? You won’t show up to the smaller tournaments because of the money? However; you will complain about the other tennis players that are ranked #1 without a grand slam? Oh please! What about the little people, the ones who can’t afford the lavish tennis trips to watch you do what you were created to do? Yes, what about US????

Long ago, the creator and militant tennis coach, Richard Williams, took you an oasis in the desert where you were set to compete against other world class athletes only to cry “RACISM” to the crowd. Why is that? Did somebody call you a name? Did somebody offend your lord and savior? Since that fateful day, you have yet to show your face to the crowds that pay your salary, give you reason to continue, and to drool as you play the greatest sport on earth…TENNIS!

You have shown us moments of despair, where you should have grabbed some bench and called it a day, yet you only amazed us with the drive and willpower to get that booty off the chair and dig deep in your inner workings to come back with the power of a goddess to only remind every single person that you are the greatest and win. However; you only downplay the truth, as you always do, that you are living in the innocence of a fairytale dream that you’ve done nothing wrong. YOU LIE!

The truth of the matter is, we actually despise you. Go home. Retire. Continue your career on QVC selling your overpriced jewels that are quite atrocious. With all the ranting and raving that you’ve created, it’s time to give it a rest. We’re sick of the complaining, we just want to watch you play tennis – although the thought of a 2009 US Open semi final repeat would be quite spectacular to witness – and play without limitation and zero expectations. Don’t play for the fans, play for the love of the game.

In closing, we will continue to root for you Serena, since deep down we will always love and adore you. We don’t mean this in bad faith, we’re just pointing out the obvious. So please, take your tennis racquet, tie your shoes, pull back your lovely locks of hair, put in the dangling earrings, and get out on the court and make history….we are watching it happen.

Sincerely,

Your adoring fans.

Hit for Haiti scammers…beware!

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Hey folks, while looking around for the sold out event at the BNP Open, Hit for Haiti – where tennis super stars, current and former, play exhibition style tennis to raise money for the recovery effort in Haiti – we have found several postings on Craigslist and Ebay selling for hundreds of dollars more than the price of the ticket!

Over here at tennisthis.com, we are horrified with these people who are selling these tennis tickets at such a high price. We are almost certain that the profits from the sale of these tickets will not go towards the relief efforts in the country of Haiti. The tickets on eBay are going for $2,500 – the ticket price for this event is a mere $10 – which is a 25,000% markup! Who in their right mind would do such a selfish thing?

Tennis legends like Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Lindsay Davenport are scheduled to participate in this fundraiser; how do you think they would feel if the effort they were making was being taken advantage of by greedy people like those on Craigslist and eBay? Highly doubtful they would ever do it again.

We are truly disappointed with the selfish people who are doing this and we hope that they will soon realize what they’re doing is wrong. Please, if you are planning to go in search of these tennis tickets, don’t buy them from people who have marked them up significantly, it’s not helping the relief efforts in Haiti. If you would like to donate to the Haiti relief, click here.

BNP Open Wildcards announced for 2010

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Hey folks. Just got word of the 2010 BNP Paribas Open have been announced! It looks like we’ll be seeing Justine Henin, Carlos Moya, and David Nalbandian competing at this years tennis tournament. After Henin’s run at the Australian Open (reaching the finals and losing to Serena Williams), we might see her make some tennis waves this year at the smaller tournament – the pressure is seemingly less this time around for the Belgian, so we are very excited to see what she brings to the tennis court.

As far as Moya and Nalbandian are concerned, well we all know what Nalbandian is capable of on the tennis court – he is/was a master of the forehand and his transition tennis game, however, he has recently had a hip surgery so we’re not sure if he’s going to perform like he did last year (losing an epic quarterfinal tennis match against Rafael Nadal), so that will be interesting to see how that all plays out. Moya on the other hand, had pretty much disappeared in early 2009 – he announced an indefinite hiatus from tennis – until the beginning of the 2010 tennis season, where he had some piss poor matches. Where does that leave him for this tennis tournament??? Basically if he makes it past the 3rd round, we’d be extremely surprised.

So those are the announced wildcard entries for the tennis tournament coming up in a couple of weeks, we’ll see what becomes of them. We do wish them good luck in their tennis matches.

If you want to attend this tennis tournament, our affiliate, RazorGator is offering $10 off tennis tickets of $75 or more with code GATOR1075. So why not go check out the wildcards and all the other tennis players that will be there? Go and have fun!
