Federer down but not out.

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Ok, so Roger Federer lost today in the second round of the Rome Masters tennis event! We have gotten countless emails about how he’s already showing a poor performance on the clay tennis courts this year. Really? Already showing a poor performance? Come on tennis fans, it’s not a grand slam tennis event! You know Roger can pull out the guns (or tennis racquet if you please) when he needs to. Did anybody think that he may not be actually bringing his “A” game to the tennis match? After all, he hasn’t won every masters series tennis event – but he has won EVERY major tennis championship.

Let’s give the guy a break, yeah, I’m sure he wasn’t happy about losing to Earnest Gulbis (who?), but that’s the game of tennis, you win some and you lose some.

We’ll see how he fares at the French to defend his title.

Hit for Haiti scammers…beware!

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Hey folks, while looking around for the sold out event at the BNP Open, Hit for Haiti – where tennis super stars, current and former, play exhibition style tennis to raise money for the recovery effort in Haiti – we have found several postings on Craigslist and Ebay selling for hundreds of dollars more than the price of the ticket!

Over here at tennisthis.com, we are horrified with these people who are selling these tennis tickets at such a high price. We are almost certain that the profits from the sale of these tickets will not go towards the relief efforts in the country of Haiti. The tickets on eBay are going for $2,500 – the ticket price for this event is a mere $10 – which is a 25,000% markup! Who in their right mind would do such a selfish thing?

Tennis legends like Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Lindsay Davenport are scheduled to participate in this fundraiser; how do you think they would feel if the effort they were making was being taken advantage of by greedy people like those on Craigslist and eBay? Highly doubtful they would ever do it again.

We are truly disappointed with the selfish people who are doing this and we hope that they will soon realize what they’re doing is wrong. Please, if you are planning to go in search of these tennis tickets, don’t buy them from people who have marked them up significantly, it’s not helping the relief efforts in Haiti. If you would like to donate to the Haiti relief, click here.

BNP Paribas Open (formerly Pacific Life Open) Preview

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

With the BNP Paribas Open just around the corner, we here at tennisthis.com are taking a look at what is to come of this awesome tennis tournament. Last year in 2009, Rafael Nadal cleaned up the field with his booming forehand and laser like backhand, will he be able to do it again? Judging by Nadal’s recent performance at the Australian Open, we highly doubt that he will be playing at the caliber that he has over the past years. His knees don’t seem to be holding up for him, so we guess the title is up for grabs. Will Roger Federer be able to win this tournament once again (winner in ‘05 and ‘06)? Or will Andy Roddick have his chance at tennis glory this time around?

This tennis tournament is by far one of the greater non-slam events in the tennis calendar, it is considered the “Grand Slam of the West” and has been voted as one of the best tournaments to attend by the tennis fans all around. This little gem of a tournament is nestled in the picturesque southern California mountains just east of Orange County, CA and is easily accessible by car. The stadium is breathtaking and any seat in the house holds a great view for all tennis spectators. Beyond that, there are tons of things to do the little town of Indian Well, there is a bunch of golf, restaurants, and at the tennis gardens, you are able to meet tennis racquet/equipment manufacturers, and so much more. Bring your kids too, since there’s instructional tennis activities to be had at the ground.

If you are wanting to go see a great tennis tournament, be sure to visit this event as it is a great non-slam tournament, besides, you wouldn’t have to travel far if you already live in California! Keep an eye out for the tennisthis.com team, as we will be attending the semi-finals and finals – we hope to see you there!

We just got word from one of our partners RazorGator, if you buy your tennis tickets by clicking here, you will get $10 off any purchase of $75 or more with code GATOR1075. That’s our gift of tennis you, the tennis fan!

**UPDATE**

According to Peter Bodo, who is a writer for Tennis.com, says that a “reliable source” has told him that Roger Federer will not be competing at the BNP Paribas open tennis tournament due to a lung infection. Nobody knows if this is actually true, however; we plan to keep a close eye on this matter for the tennis great.
