Hit for Haiti scammers…beware!

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Hey folks, while looking around for the sold out event at the BNP Open, Hit for Haiti – where tennis super stars, current and former, play exhibition style tennis to raise money for the recovery effort in Haiti – we have found several postings on Craigslist and Ebay selling for hundreds of dollars more than the price of the ticket!

Over here at tennisthis.com, we are horrified with these people who are selling these tennis tickets at such a high price. We are almost certain that the profits from the sale of these tickets will not go towards the relief efforts in the country of Haiti. The tickets on eBay are going for $2,500 – the ticket price for this event is a mere $10 – which is a 25,000% markup! Who in their right mind would do such a selfish thing?

Tennis legends like Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Lindsay Davenport are scheduled to participate in this fundraiser; how do you think they would feel if the effort they were making was being taken advantage of by greedy people like those on Craigslist and eBay? Highly doubtful they would ever do it again.

We are truly disappointed with the selfish people who are doing this and we hope that they will soon realize what they’re doing is wrong. Please, if you are planning to go in search of these tennis tickets, don’t buy them from people who have marked them up significantly, it’s not helping the relief efforts in Haiti. Old flat fuzzy balls

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The other day we were discussing what to do with all the old and flat tennis balls we had laying around. Having a gigantic pile of flat tennis balls really serves no purpose if you are not running a tennis training camp/center or own a dog kennel.

So what exactly could you do with these old fuzzy balls? We have compiled a short list of random things you can do with your old tennis balls – related to tennis and not related :)

  1. Put them up on Craigslist to sell or give away.
  2. Go to your local tennis center and see if you can donate them.
  3. Head over to the retirement home to visit your Aunt Gertrude and see if her house mates need tennis balls for their walkers.
  4. Use them as target practice or fill them with gun powder for an explosive tennis serve (we highly do not recommend you actually do this).
  5. Check with the high schools or college to see if their tennis teams need practice balls.
  6. Cut them in half and tape them to the bottom of your shoe heels – this will help you stay on your toes during tennis play.
  7. Again cut them in half and place them under couch feet or bed feet – makes it easy to move furniture and doesn’t scuff your floor!
  8. Give them to your dog.
  9. You could recycle your old tennis balls.
  10. And finally, you could just leave the tennis balls in your garage (like they are now) and keep telling yourself that you will actually move them at some point.

Those are some of the awesome and creative ways you can get rid of your old tennis balls without just throwing them in the trash or dumping them on the side of the road. We’re curious to know what you, the reader, has done to recycle your old tennis balls (comment below).

Just for fun…How fast can you serve?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Hey tennisthis readers, just for giggles, how fast can you guys and girls serve?

Depending on the responses that we get, we might give the fastest server a prize (not money, sorry folks, the economy sucks), however; there will be some requirements to enter for the prize.

  1. We will actually need to see proof of your service record – a picture, a video, something that can be verified.
  2. What tennis equipment you used – what type of tennis racquet, tennis string, tennis ball, and location and time played.
  3. Your name please.

So, please comment on this post with your service speed – we’ll even convert those of you who only function in kilometers per hour :)
