How about that bagel?

I know, I haven’t been writing much of anything about the World Tour Finals, only because it’s the holidays and I’m trying to spend more time with family and saving my pennies for Christmas gifts for the kiddos.

In any event, I just finished watching the match between Roger Federer [4] and Rafael Nadal [2]. Holy bagels batman! I could not believe what I was watching, it didn’t seem that Nadal was really there. Roger to an early lead in the first set, breaking early (twice) and riding the set out to go 6-3.

The second set was something out of the ordinary, Nadal was served a warm and toasty bagel. That’s right, Federer capitalized on Rafa’s “brain fart” in the second set, going 6 love to end the match. Now, I admit, Nadal looked really flat and almost green in the face but that shouldn’t be a factor, especially considering his tweet, 30 minutes before the match:

Superados totalmente los problemas estomacales… entrenando duro para el partido contra Federer

*Translated for the gringos: Fully overcome the stomach problems … training hard for the match against Federer

That’s pretty clear that Nadal was feeling fine before the match, so let’s keep the “he must have been ill” chatter to a minimum.

Federer on the other side of the court looked absolutely fantastic! His backhand was on fire  and at one point in the second set, looked like he was absolutely toying with Nadal. I was highly entertained and I even shed a smirk at the end of the match.

Next Roger will face winless Mardy Fish in his final round of the Round Robin and Rafael Nadal will enter the Battle of the Babolat AeroPro Drive GT (I totally just made that up) against Frenchman Jo-Wilfriend Tsonga who is 1-1 in the Round Robin. Both matches should be entertaining.
