UPDATE: Federer’s New ProStaff RF 97 has been released…read more
It’s about time Federer’s New 2018 Racquet gets brought up in conversation! Roger Federer is skipping the clay season, for whatever reason but that’s not stopping him from practicing. Ron Yu, Federer’s tour stringer, from Priority 1 recently posted on his Instagram:
Federer’s New 2018 Racquet
Is Ron Yu’s post an indication that a new Wilson ProStaff is on the brink of release? Or, worse, does it mean that Roger Federer might be done with tennis? Hard to tell. Federer’s new 2018 racquet is super/ultra top secret, there hasn’t been any leaks on either speculative scenario. Furthermore, Roger Federer has said that he plans to continue playing for many years to come. So I would expect he would continue playing at least through the end of the 2018 ATP season.
The more likely move would be that Wilson is going to release a new line of ProStaff Roger Federer racquets. Wilson is typically on a 2 year cycle. If you remember Roger Federer’s racquet history:
2018: ProStaff RF 97 Autograph (black and white)
2016 – 2018: ProStaff RF97 Autograph Black
2014 – 2016: ProStaff RF97 Autograph Red
2012 – 2014: ProStaff BLX Six.One 90
You get the idea. Wilson has Roger Federer on a 2 year cycle of racquet paint jobs. Check out all the pros who use Wilson ProStaff tennis racquets on the ATP tour.
Roger Federer’s New 2018 Racquet: What Ron Said
In the above Instagram picture, Ron Yu adds the caption, “I probably won’t see these racquets ever again once the leave the office. #niceknowingyou.” What does that even mean? That’s a pretty bold statement if you ask me. Though, I’m pretty sure that he’s indicating that the current ProStaff RF97 will be changing again later on in 2018.
