Tennis time violators beware of your 2013 tennis season. That's right, the players on the ATP will be held accountable to the 20 between points. There is no actual change to the current rule; (Rule 29, section a) CONTINUOUS PLAY - Between points, a maximum of twenty (20) seconds is allowed. When the players change ends at the end of a game, a maximum of ninety (90) seconds are … [Read more...]
Changes needed in 2012
Starting in 2012, I would love to see some changes to tennis! There are a bunch of things I would love to see happen in 2012; however, I don't want to bore you with all the little ideas I have. I will outline some of the changes that would be awesome in 2012. First I would start with making all the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events best of 5 sets for the men and same for … [Read more...]
Public tennis court courtesies
If you are like me, you don't belong to a private tennis club and you use the public tennis courts in your community to play. Unfortunately, public tennis courts tend to be full and the waiting game then starts. But how long does one have to wait for a tennis court? Are there rules to waiting? What do you do when you are playing and people are waiting? No matter how entry-level … [Read more...]
Breaking the abused tennis racquet rule

I was just watching a couple of the womens tennis matches at Wimbledon; I'm pretty much hard of hearing for the next couple of hours after all the screeching my poor ear drums endured. There's nothing worse than enjoying a kick-ass sport like tennis, only for it to be ruined by the grunt, howls, screeching, and flat out yelling that … [Read more...]
What we learned from the Australian Open Tennis Championships
Looking back to the last two weeks of the Aussie Open tennis championships, we have learned a couple of things....here are the random things that we picked up while watching ESPN's daily coverage of the tennis tournament (in no particular order): Brad Gilbert is probably one of the best tennis announcers around..."Give 'em the cheese!", "Bring the wood!", and our favorite … [Read more...]
Rules are rules, right?
Now that the Aussie has started, we're looking at some of the rulings. According to the rules, each player is allowed 25 seconds between points, to towel off, get a ball, take a breath, etc. Watching the Sharapova vs. Kirilenko match, these ladies have consistently been taking, on average, 33 seconds between points! Seriously??? Why isn't the chair umpire doing her job? Why … [Read more...]
