The Gamma Zo Twist 16 was the first textured tennis string that I ever used. I picked up this set of string thinking it would give me a ton of spin, partly because it was twisted and the sharp string edges made it look like the string would propel the tennis ball forward with a ton of revolutions. Of course this was all in theory.
Gamma Zo Twist 16 review
Stringing the Zo Twist was a pain in my rear, because this is a stiffer tennis string, it did not uncoil properly and the pre-stretch had very little effect on the coils. So it took a little longer to string it up on my old Head Prestige racquet. I strung it at 53 pounds hoping for a bit more power from a stiffer set of strings.
On court the Zo Twist performed like a stiff tennis string would, crisp with little feel on touch shots. However, the lack of feel was absolutely made up by the power the Gamma Zo Twist 16 possessed! I was really able to rip on the tennis ball and hit deep penetrating shots.
Now for the spin, I expected to get lots of spin from the this string, because it was textured and “twisted.” Fortunately, it did just that; the Zo Twist exceeded my expectations for access to spin. The ball would fly across the net and would seem to hit an invisible wall and drop into the tennis court. I absolutely loved the amount and kind of spin it produced; the ball would accelerate through the court and would kick up high enough to where my hitting partner struggled. As soon as the strings started to settle in place, I could really feel the ball pocketing easily.
Finding ball control with the Gamma was something I struggled with a bit going for placement shots. The strings would not cooperate with my racquet and I would find myself hitting way wide. Hitting with power down the middle of the tennis court is ideal for this particular polyester tennis string.
After hitting with the Gamma Zo Twist 16 for a couple of hours my arm became very fatigued and sore. I assure you it’s nothing to do with lack of strength; because the strings are so stiff, I got a lot of vibration coming through the handle. I used a Babolat Custom Damp, with both pieces together (for extra dampening) and I still had a sore arm.
Final thoughts on Gamma Zo Twist 16 string
After all was said and done, I decided to keep the Gamma Zo Twist 16 in my tennis racquet for an extended period of time; funny enough, the strings played really well for several months without breaking! I eventually changed tennis racquets and just recently I picked up the racquet with the Gamma tennis string and hit with it. It did break after 10 minutes of solid hitting. So yes, the Zo Twist 16 is extremely durable and a must try for the regular string breaker.
