2012 Wimbledon Day 2, the remaining matches from today have all been suspended due to rain and darkness. That doesn’t mean that there have been lots of good matches at 2012 Wimbledon day 2.
2012 Wimbledon Day 2 – Play suspended
Winners from today include Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Juan Martin Del Potro, Marin Cilic, Sam Querrey, and many many more. Some matches were tougher than other, though I think Andy Murray’s first round match against Russian, Nikolay Davydenko was a cake walk. Murray dominated the Russian in three easy sets, 6-1, 6-1, and 6-4. Is Andy Murray on the brink of winning 2012 Wimbledon? Davydenko doesn’t seem to think so, citing that he doesn’t think Murray can win a major. I don’t think he can win 2012 Wimbledon, maybe another year.
In other 2012 Wimbledon matches, Andy Roddick was leading British Jamie Baker a set and 4-2 in the second. Roddick seems to have warmed up in this match, he looked a little cold in the first 11 games, but came to life in the tiebreaker. I have the feeling that he’s going to be able to close the door on Baker tomorrow in straight sets.
Other notable matches that have been suspended today are, Ferrer’s match against Dustin Brown, Wawrinka and Melzer are deep in the fifth set with Jurgen serving for the match; Milos Ranoic is also on serve for the match, as well as Ivo Karlovic with a commanding lead over Dudi Sela, 6-4, 6-4, 1-1.
The weather at 2012 Wimbledon has not been all that bad, though it’s starting to pick up as the week progresses. There is rain scheduled for the remainder of the week. Hopefully this overnight break will not effect the players that are leading. Perhaps it will help the players that are behind, let them regroup mentally and have an opportunity to talk to their coaches/team.
I am sure tomorrow will be a big day, the day 1 winners will be playing their second round matches. More on that tomorrow.
