The second 2012 Wimbledon men’s semifinal is locked in for Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. This will be their seventh meeting.
2012 Wimbledon quarterfinal match Murray vs. Ferrer
Andy Murray had to really buckle down and play some smart tennis against David Ferrer. The grinding Spaniard broke Murray’s serve early on in the first set, though Murray flipped a switch and broke back. The two ended up in first set tie break, Ferrer got an early mini-break in the breaker and never looked back.
I thought for sure that Ferrer was going to be on cruise control after that. Which at first he was, leading the second set 5-3. I was mistaken, the Brit took charge and broke back, pushing Ferrer to a second set tiebreaker. Ferrer had his chances in the tiebreaker but Murray picked up the aggression and started hitting his spots. Murray closed out the second set tiebreaker 8 points to 6.
In the third Murray picked up where he left off, just killing it. Andy just keep moving Ferrer around the court, forcing Ferrer to make errors or make brilliant shots.
Murray finished off the Spaniard in a fourth set tiebreaker. This win will advance him to the semifinal for the fourth time in his career. Andy Murray’s 2012 Wimbledon semifinal will be against Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
2012 Wimbledon quarterfinal match Tsonga vs. Kohlschreiber
The Frenchman also had to work hard to win his 2012 Wimbledon quarterfinal match against Philipp Kohlschreiber. The two played a close first set, going into a tiebreaker. Tsonga hit some really big shots in the tiebreaker, finding a way to break the Kohlschreiber serve and took the opening set 7 points to 5.
Kohlschreiber’s hard work took charge in the second set. The German capitalized the Tsonga sluggish start to the second set quickly taking a 3 to love lead. Tsonga came back and was able to even the score 4 all, but the German’s hard strokes made Frenchman hit a pile of errors. The second set was all Kohlschreiber, 6-4.
The third set between the two was similar to the first, where both players held onto their serve, forcing a deciding tiebreak. Tsonga raced to a quick 5-2 lead and closed out the third 7 points to 3.
The fourth set was quick for Tsonga, breaking Kohlschreiber’s serve quickly and finishing out the set, and match in 25 minutes.
2012 Wimbledon Murray vs. Tsonga semifinal prediction
I’m not sure this 2012 Wimbledon semifinal will be long and drawn out like the first semifinal may be. Tsonga has only been able to beat Murray once in their careers. The two have met on the grass a couple of times, both times Tsonga had been able to take a set from Murray.
Watching today’s matches, I have a feeling that Murray is going to win his 2012 Wimbledon semifinal match and reach the finals for the first time. If Murray does in fact win his 2012 Wimbledon semifinal match, he will be the first British male player since 1938 to reach the finals. Talk about pressure. I’m sure ticket prices have sky rocketed since his win today.
I don’t want to rule out Tsonga just yet, he is a great player, who hits really big. The Frenchman has got game and the smarts to outlast Murray. I just don’t see Tsonga winning this match, and if he does, it’s not going to be easy at all. He’s going to have to work really hard to get there.
I predict that Andy Murray will reach the 2012 Wimbledon Finals in four tough sets.
