2019 Babolat Pure Aero

July 10, 2018 By G.O.A.T Leave a Comment

2018 keeps on giving us a great year for tennis gear, this time it’s the 2019 Babolat Pure Aero line of tennis racquets! Currently, Rafael Nadal and several other players from the ATP & WTA tours use the current Pure Aero model – you can find a list of what racquets the pros use on the tour*

2019 Babolat Pure Aero: What’s new?

2019 Babolat Pure Aero tennis racquet pictureWell, not a lot from the technological standpoint. The 2019 Babolat Pure Aero Team has a few minor tweaks to the specs:

2017 2019
Head 100 100
Weight 285 285g
Balance 320 320
Flex 72 71

and the  2019 Babolat Pure Aero compared to the 2017 version has the following spec differential:

2017 2019
Head 100 100
Weight 300 300g
Balance 320 320
Flex 72 71

As you can see, the big standouts are the weight and stiffness ratings (Correction: Originally used strung specs versus unstrung). Babaolat has made the 2019 Babolat Pure Aero less stiff , keeping it a very powerful weapon of choice for tennis players. This also leads to some potential arm issues, with a stiffer tennis racquet the player feels a lot more of the shock and vibration from the tennis racquet. This generally leads to tennis elbow.

Aside from that, we’re looking at a cosmetic upgrade. The black and yellow/green will be a lot more yellow with less black. Not my favorite paintjob that’s for sure. Additionally, like the 2018 Pure Drive, the decals are placed across the throat of the racquet. I like that on the 2018 Pure Drive, but not so much on the 2019 Babolat Pure Aero.

I’m told that Rafael Nadal had a lot of involvement with the design of the 2019 Babolat Pure Aero. There were different iterations of the cosmetics but he didn’t like them very much, saying he was “distracted” by the paint. This paintjob is the one he liked the most.

2019 Babolat Pure Aero: Release date?

Of course you’re wondering when these racquets will be available to the public? I’m told that mid-November of 2018 is the target release date, with probable pre-sale opportunities at Tennis-Warehouse, and other retailers, before then. Just be sure to ask your local shop when they will be picking up the new racquets for the end of the year. Retail prices are looking to be around the $230 mark for initial release.

What do you think about the new 2018 Babolat Pure Aero? Let me know in the comments below!
