The time is finally upon us, 2011 Wimbledon Championships have finally started! I can’t believe it’s been a year since the world witnessed the longest tennis match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut – 6–4, 3–6, 6–7(7–9), 7–6(7–3), 70–68 11 hours, 5 minutes of play over three days. The match that overshadowed Nadal’s and Serena Williams’ championship wins in the finals.
This years Wimbledon matches are to be something different, there’s the buzz of Djokovic winning and taking the #1 spot, there’s also the buzz of Roddick’s last chance for the elusive #2 major, and of course there’s the murmur of Serena Williams’ comeback to the All England Club to defend her 2010 Wimbledon Title.
Could this be a breakthrough year for the “non major winners”? Will Caroline Wozniacki back up her #1 ranking by winning her first major? Can Vera Zvonerava battle past her emotional roller coaster to close out a final? Can Andy Murray get the monkey off his back and win the darn thing this year? Will we see a fresh champion on either side?
There are simply too many variables to pick my winners right now, but I can say with confidence it will be exciting from day 1 until Championship Weekend. So, turn on the TV or record the matches on your DVR or TiVo and experience the amazing tennis!
