It's over. The 2011 tennis season is finally over, phew! I would love to give you readers a detailed recap of the 2011 tennis season filled with video highlights, commentary, analysis; and the rest of all those pretty things that other big tennis blogs/sites have to offer. Fortunately this site is not funded by a bigger company nor do I have investors paying me to do what I do, … [Read more...]
How about that bagel?
I know, I haven't been writing much of anything about the World Tour Finals, only because it's the holidays and I'm trying to spend more time with family and saving my pennies for Christmas gifts for the kiddos. In any event, I just finished watching the match between Roger Federer [4] and Rafael Nadal [2]. Holy bagels batman! I could not believe what I was watching, it … [Read more...]
Novak Djokovic 2011 US Open Champion
Holy smokes! I am virtually speechless. That was one of the most epic US Open finals I have seen in a long time (Del Potro's win in 2009 was epic as well)! Djokovic was the favorite going into the match but Nadal was the defending champion, so the house was split 50/50. Djokovic came out firing, he really took it to Nadal, I mean really took it to him. Nole outhit Rafa from … [Read more...]
Aussie Samantha Stosur wins first US Open
Wow...it's hard to describe what I saw today during the 2011 US Open women's final match against three time champion Serena Williams and first time finalist Samantha Stosur. When Serena Williams took out current world #1 Caroline Wozniacki, I thought for sure that Williams would bully her way to lifting the coveted trophy. But much to her fans dismay, she landed in second … [Read more...]
Djokovic to clash against Nadal
Talk about super Saturday! I was thoroughly impressed by the match between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Nole came back from what I thought was going to be a four set victory for the Swiss champ. Instead, Djokovic did the exact same thing he did in 2010, came back from from two sets down and two match points down to win against Federer. Djokovic played tennis like John … [Read more...]
Nadal Dismantled Roddick in US Open quarterfinals
What I thought was giong to be a close, if not epic tennis match between Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick, turned out to be a major beat down. Nadal was on fire and Roddick was about as flat a heavily used tennis ball. Nadal didn't a bad match, nor did he play a spectacle of a tennis match; he played good. He found the lines, anticipated well, returned better, and was just on … [Read more...]
Two Americans reach US Open quarterfinals
From now on I'm not going to call anymore tennis matches! First my brackets were 75% spot on for the first round, then things fell apart after that. I also called David Ferrer having a slight advantage over Andy Roddick in their round of 16 match, yep, I got that wrong too. I'm kidding about calling matches, I'll still call matches as they come - you can't win them all … [Read more...]
US down to 3 men at the Open
Rolling into week two of the 2011 US Open, there have been some pretty big upsets. However, probably none bigger than the unforeseen fourth round exit of Mardy Fish. What I predicted to be a close match and Fish as the victor, turned out to be a close match just a different victor. Tsonga took it to Fish in a 5 set thriller, in 3 hours 45 minutes Jo-Wilfried ended the hopes … [Read more...]
2011 US Open so far
We're deep into day 4 of the 2011 US Open, there have been a few upsets, some unexpected wins, incredible matches, and even more impressive shot making from the players. The seeds that have fallen were not expected, I was shocked that Petra Kvitova, who had won Wimbledon this year, lost in her opening match against Alexandra Dulgheru in straight sets 7-6, 3-6. Daniela … [Read more...]
Roger Federer Plays Freely At 2011 US Open
World #3, Roger Federer had his first round match against Colombian Santiago Giraldo at the 2011 US Open. Federer said in his pre-match interview with Pam Shriver that "I've practiced against him [Giraldo] many times, so I know his game very well." Pretty confident I'd say. Santiago Giraldo came out swinging for the fences, there were a few exchanges in the second set that … [Read more...]
