Genie Bouchard: The Modern Day Anna Kournikova

March 10, 2017 By G.O.A.T 3 Comments

Genie Bouchard Continues a Downward Trend

The performance woes for Genie Bouchard continue into 2017 in the desert at the BNP Paribas Open. The Canadian tennis star had yet another first round exit against Germany’s Annika Beck in 3 sets. Her performances continue to appear halfhearted and lacking the “fight” that the Canadian showed in 2014.

What happened to the Genie Bouchard that we once knew?

It appears that she got wrapped up in the spotlight. Let’s be realistic here, as soon as she made her mark in 2014 by reaching her first major final at Wimbledon against Petra Kvitova. After the Wimbledon final, her ranking shot up into the top 10 and into the hearts of tennis fans globally. She was suddenly everywhere. Bouchard was the hottest tennis player since sliced bread. Sadly, it doesn’t get better after that.

Bouchard Social Life vs Tennis Life

I don’t know about you guys, but I keep an eye on Bouchard’s Instagram and Twitter (not her Snapchat though – I think I’m too old for that). I’ve noticed that lately, well over the last couple of years, that she’s got a lot more social life going on than her tennis. I am not saying that every post/picture has to be about tennis and training, though it just seems that she’s not as focused on tennis as much anymore.

Let’s not forget the “bet” she made during the Super Bowl. I strongly feel that was some sort of publicity stunt. I mean, come on, that doesn’t really ever happen. And! They went out for a second date, and just like Bouchard’s ranking it fell off the radar pretty rapidly. It really has that fake feel to it, just to bring some additional attention to her and not her actual performances on the tennis court.

What’s her incentive these days?

Let’s look at the bigger picture; Genie is pretty, she’s got tons of money, she’s done pretty well in tennis, and she’s got international fame. She has endorsement deals with Nike, Babolat, USANA, Inc., Aviva, and Rolex earning the Canadian over $5,000,000 USD last year.

On top of all that cash flow, she landed a spot in the 2017 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. I like the pictures, she looks good in a…bathing suit…I think that’s a bathing suit? Anyway, her sex-appeal is off the charts, but it’s all she’s got going these days. Her tennis is suffering tremendously.

The fight that I mentioned earlier has vanished. She looks completely disinterested in playing tennis. She’s not moving well, goes for winners that not even Serena Williams could hit, and well, she just doesn’t seem to have the stamina.

I don’t know what the answer is for Genie; she’s looking more and more like Anna Kournikova from yesteryear. A lot of hype, good looks, marketable, sprinkled with a little promise, and just doesn’t deliver the goods when needed.

Maybe just stick to modeling?
