It’s not like I’m a stalker or anything, though as I follow many of the top players’ social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube; I came across this little gem. It looks as though, world #2 and defending French Open champion, Rafael Nadal is going to be sporting a new tennis racquet!
We’ve all seen him with his Babolat AeroPro Drive GT, and recently he had added weight to his tennis racquet. But this my friends, is something totally different, it’s still a Babolat, though the paint job is completely different and the throat of the racket does not have the width that the current AeroPro has.
Rafa’s Facebook caption says the following: “I’ve been testing the racquet of the future of my Babolat’s friends . It’s amazing! Tomorrow I’ll share a video and you can check as we did me and my uncle Toni! 😉” That pretty much sums up that either Rafa Nadal is play testing a new tennis racquet or he has the same tennis racquet with a new paint job, and I’m not talking about the French Open paint job. What are your thoughts?
UPDATE: I just spoke with Babolat. This is not a Rafael Nadals’ new tennis racket, in fact it’s Babolats’ new tennis racquet with the technology “Play and Connect.” Essentially it’s a tennis racquet with built-in sensors that record all kinds of cool data; racquet head speed, impact, ball speed, flex, etc. It’s supposed to be the wave of the future…supposed to be.
I wonder when Rafael Nadal will actually get a new Babolat tennis racquet? It seems that he’s one of a few players who still use old models (Juan Martin del Potro still uses the K-Factor frames from Wilson).
