…well at least she has digitally. It is officially “World AIDS Day/Week” and tons of celebrities have banned together to raise money for AIDS research and relief in Africa and India. Now, we’re all for raising money to help those in more difficult situations than that we have, however; when you put together celebrities (a.k.a millionaires) to tell us that they will not cater to their fans until we raise a certain amount of money – requires a minimum of $10 donations, that’s just crossing the unseen line.
What we mean to say is that, do we really care that much about you? Do we care that you won’t be “tweeting” or posting on facebook until we give away our hard earned money? At Tennisthis, we just have to say “NO!” We don’t care that much, if you want to raise money for AIDS that’s perfectly ok but really don’t make it a forced issue. Don’t threaten your fans with you “digital death” until we send our money away. Not to mention you, Serena Williams, have WAY more money than we do! If you are so serious about raising money, then why don’t you just give up a cool millions dollars of your own money and spare us hard working people the laughable fundraiser you have created.
The plan has backfired though, among all the celebrities, their fans have raised a mere $100K, far from the required million for them to come back to digital life. We are guessing the celebrities have forgotten that the economy is not as healthy as they had hoped, so the donations have been rather bleak.
We could spend all day telling you how ridiculous this is, but we just don’t care enough to express how we feel about this. So, if you are true to your word Serena Williams, we’re assuming that you won’t be tweeting or facebooking for quite some time…we can almost see you squirming in your chair going through withdraws of twitter and facebook.
