Bouchard Changing Tennis Racquets Again

UPDATE: Bouchard continues with Wilson tennis racquet testing

Just a quick update, Genie Bouchard had yet another first round loss at the 2018 BNP Paribas Open. She did lose while using her trusty Babolat tennis racquet; now she’s in Miami training for the 2018 Miami Open. Genie will have to go through qualifying in order to make it to the main draw, which she hasn’t had to do for a while as she has received many wildcards over the last several months…despite her ranking and losing record.

In any event, Bouchard is still testing a Wilson Ultra tennis racquet. At Indian Wells it appeared she was trying out the Wilson Ultra (100 square inches and a 16×19 stringing pattern), but now it appears she’s trying out the Wilson Ultra Tour (97 square inches and 18×20 string pattern).

Here’s a quick video of that:

Oh Genie Bouchard…hard to say what’s happening here. The Canadian “tennis  star” has, yet again, reached for another desperate move with her tennis equipment. Seeing some pictures on the web and social media of Bouchard practicing with a different racquet from her normal Babolat Pure Aero Pink, and recently playing with what appears to be a Wilson Ultra 100 or a Wilson Ultra Tour tennis racket.

See Bourchard’s New Tennis Racquet:

Bouchard’s Tennis Racquet History

Since Genie made a splash on the WTA Tour back in 2009, she has played with a variety of tennis racquets. Some have served her better than others, while some have stayed in her back longer than others. So, here’s the list of Bouchard tennis racquets from her career, so far:

  • 2009 – 2011: Wilson KBlade Team
  • 2011 – 2012: Wilson BLX Blade Pink
  • 2012 – 2013: Wilson Steam 99
  • 2013 – 2015: Babolat Aero Pro
  • 2015 – 2015: Babolat Aero Pro Pink
  • 2016 – 2017: Babolat Pure Aero
  • 2017 – 2017: Babolat Pure Drive
  • 2017 – 2018: Head XT Graphene Radical
  • 2018 – 2018: Babolat Pure Aero
  • 2018 – 2018: Wilson Ultra (100 or Tour)

I believe her contract with Babolat had expired at the end of 2017 leaving her with a choice of weapon to carry. So far the testing of the Pure Drive and Radical racquets haven’t helped Genie with her results; having several first and second round losses for the greater part of the last 12 months.

Like I’ve said in previous posts, Bouchard should put the social media down for a while and work on the game (technique and mentality) without looking for a solution in the form of a tennis racquet.

We will see what Genie Bourchard will take with her on the tennis court at the 2018 BNP Paribas Open; will it be her trusty Pure Aero or will it be the Wilson Ultra? Either way, what do you think her results will be this year? Also, what do you think her best racquet choice would be if you could tell her what to play with? Let me know in the comments below!
