The 2011 US Open has been good so far for both of the Williams’ sisters, Serena and Venus won both their opening matches with ease. Serena in normal dominant form and Venus in her powerful serving cruised. But that’s the end of the road for the 5-time major champion, Venus Williams, her 2011 US Open hopes are now over as she has withdrawn from the tournament.
Just announced today; Venus Williams has officially withdrawn from the 2011 US Open due to a medical condition. She has been diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disease. Jögren’s syndrome may cause skin, nose, and vaginal dryness, and may affect other organs of the body, including the kidneys, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas, peripheral nervous system (distal axonal sensorimotor neuropathy) and brain.
This obviously comes as a shocker to the sports world, especially more so since her younger sister Serena recently suffered a pulmonary embolism that had hospitalized the tennis star.
Could this initiate an early retirement for Venus Williams? Doubtful, she’s a fighter and has some tennis left in her, or at least I hope she does. Pretty darn sad if you ask me.

As for me, I think that Venus Williams will come back, but I doubt if she can still win a major tournament. Another fact is that Venus seems to not have improved her playing skills in a certain period of time.
If she comes back, she may cease to be the impressive player that she once was. There are these young girls who really play well and have time to improve their game in order to dominate. Another factor that speaks against Venus is that she does not have the strong mental of her sister.

I totally agree, I truly hope Venus does get better, not just to play tennis again, but to live once again healthy
