Andy Murray has been given the official nod from some of the sports greatest players to win the 2012 US Open. Andy was the 2008 US Open runner up where he lost to defending champion, Roger Federer. In the 2011 US Open, Andy Murray lost to Rafael Nadal in the semifinals.
1988 US Open champion Mas Wilander thinks Andy Murray can win this year
Wilander says that Andy has mostly improved his mental strength, “he’s more even keeled and more positive.”
1996 US Open semifinalist Goran Ivanišević also gives the nod for Murray to win the Open
Like Mats, Goran says that Murray’s Olympic win will help him make a serious 2012 US Open run, “I think US Open is his best surface.”
Do I think that Andy Murray can actually win a first major at the 2012 US Open? It entirely depends on his draw (which is released August 23, 2012). The only hitch, and potential to keep him from capturing his first title would be either Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic. There’s really nobody else that can hurt him on court. Murray, we know is best on a faster surface, though his major final appearances have always been heavily one-sided. Murray has only won one set in his 4 major appearances (2012 Wimbledon).
I will have a more in depth prediction of Andy Murray’s and other players potential run at the 2012 US Open aft the draw is released.
