If Rafael Nadal’s woes are bad now, they just might be getting worse. There is a large possibility that Nadal will miss the 2012 US Open because of his injured knees, specifically tendinitis. Rafa, who had won the US Open title in 2010, has already pulled out of the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters 1000 events because of injury. Nadal’s return to tennis is in jeopardy.
It is only a possiblity that Rafael Nadal will miss the 2012 US Open
In an interview with Spanish TV station, La Verdad, Nadal said, “I don’t know if I’ll be ready in time for the US Open, I can’t say yes or no. It is not the same as other years, and I have found it a little different.” If Nadal is questioning his health, then it is a very serious concern.
Nadal is no stranger to being on the injury list, he has had regular knee problems. At times having to withdraw from matches prematurely and even taking several weeks of at a time.
Even Roger Federer expressed concern over Nadal’s condition and return to tennis, “I thought for sure we would see him in Toronto, but now he missed Toronto and Cincinnati,” Federer said. “It’s very surprising, because it was nothing that we heard of prior to the injury. He played so well on clay, and then actually seemed fine at Wimbledon. He had more time by losing earlier at Wimbledon. I’m sad for him. I hope he’ll be back for the Open.”
Am I shocked by this announcement? No, not really. I kind of knew a day like this was going to come. Rafael Nadal has always played an aggressive baseline game, scrambling to and fro. Those knees have taken a beating, it was just a matter of time before they caught up with him.
The 2012 US Open is only a couple of weeks away from starting, so Rafael Nadal is probably in a hurry to find the magic cure for his bad knees.
