I thought it wouldn’t happen today, not against Tomas Berdych. Roger Federer lost, sorry, got beaten by Berdych.

I’ll give credit where credit is due, Tomas Berdych played some pretty big boy tennis against the five time US Open champion. Even with the tennis Berdych played, Federer played like absolute garbage.

For this US Open, I officially call Roger Federer, Roger Federror.

For some reason, Federer could not find, for the life of him any of his strokes. I don’t think I have seen Federer hit so many double faults, forehand and backhand errors. Roger hit 44 unforced errors in this quarterfinal match.

Roger Federer suffers from “Walkover Syndrome”

Federer didn’t play a competitive match since his third round match against Fernando Verdasco way back on Saturday. Federer did get a walkover on his fourth round match against Mardy Fish – Fish pulled out due to illness. Not only did he get a pass on the match, the weather played a significant role in not having matches to play. Again, the US Open got rained out and some of the matches go moved around, could be stressful to the players.

From not playing a competitive match consistently, Roger Federer’s rhythm was all out of whack. He was asleep on the court. He moved very slowly, and seemed to run around to his forehand, with an amateurish miss. Nothing seemed to work, even Mirka had her face buried in her hands, she couldn’t watch.

Even Federer didn’t look like he wanted to be there. Lost and alone on Arthur Ashe, Federer couldn’t remember how, for the life of him, to play tennis.

Federer gets a beating

Roger unfortunately could not get his rhythm in the match, Berdych was a lot better under the light of Arthur Ashe stadium.

Berdych was able to hit balls deep by the baseline, enough so that Federer struggled to get it in the court. Berdych’s footwork was pretty good – except for the few times he fell. Berdych was practically unstoppable.

Roger Federer was unable to hold onto his serve at 4 all in the fourth set. Tomas broke the Swiss serve and served for the match.
Berdych ripped a forehand down the middle of the court to Federer’s forehand which, sadly, landed in the net. Game, set, match Berdych.

Tomas Berdych will now face Andy Murray in his first US Open semifinal.

Even with this loss Roger Federer will remain #1 after the US Open is finished. He has enough points to stay on top, you can read more about the points breakdown and Federer here.
